Greater Malabar Initiative (GMi)

Greater Malabar Initiative (GMi) is a citizen’s initiative consisting of successful entrepreneurs, professionals, technocrats and academicians from Malabar region in Kerala who have joined hands with a common vision to ‘Build a Better Malabar for the Next Generation’. This forum was conceived out of a passionate belief that successful people from the region owe a moral responsibility to handover a better Malabar to the next generation. GMI was registered on December 4, 2015 as a non-profit company limited by guarantee under section 8 of the Companies Act 2013. 

GMi works in association with policy makers supporting their initiatives for public benefit. GMi organizes events to promote Malabar as a successful investment destination with the objective of creating jobs. GMi wants to see more and more people come to Malabar as tourists, as professionals and as entrepreneurs.  

Towards achieving its vision, GMi has formed various sub-committees with professionals, technocrats, and experts from the respective field to work on a voluntary basis. This event is primarily organized by the Entrepreneurship subcommittee of GMI. The Entrepreneurship subcommittee works with the objective of promoting Entrepreneurship and to develop a comprehensive a startup ecosystem in this region.

Malabar has several professional colleges and young entrepreneurs. In order to develop a comprehensive a startup ecosystem in this region GMI plans to organize ‘Start-up Pitching Contest 2017’ on the 24th, 25th and 26th of November.  This event would be inviting promising ideas from three industries which are already successful in this region. Agriculture, Health Care and Footwear Manufacturing.  

This Start-up Pitching Contest will create a platform for students and young entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas and to get investors and mentors. To fine tune the ideas and business plans, participants will be given an opportunity to interact with successful entrepreneurs from their respective industries prior to the contest.  This event will not merely be a Business Plan Contest where a winner is announced. GMI will work with industry leaders to see to it that promising ideas are taken forward with support from investors and mentors.
